Just because you write about adult topics on your blog, it doesn’t exclude you from the world of top-notch blogging. And just because you’re an adult blogger, doesn’t mean that you don’t need to work as hard as another type of niche blogger would. On the contrary! If you want your blog to “make it”, then you’re going to need to work hard, regardless of your niche.

Marketing and promoting your blog is pertinent in gaining a following, building a community and making meaningful connections. There is no better way to do this nowadays, then to use social networking as part of your blogging strategy. Sometimes, the social networks adult bloggers should use are the exact same as every other type of blogger, but other times, adult bloggers can use social networks meant just for them!

In today’s post, we’re going to be showing you four social networks and the way that you can use them to promote your blog. We’d love to know what kind of social networking you’re using on your blog to promote it, so please leave your comments below.

  1. FetLife

I’m sure most of you knew this was going to be the top of the list.  Although, you may be surprised at how many different ways you can promote your blog. First and foremost, add it to your websites in your profile and then you could also write it directly into your profile.

There is also the option to add blog updates to your writings and as status updates in the feed. But, did you know that there are also a huge variety of groups on FetLife just for adult bloggers like yourself? Simply do a search for the words “blog“, “blogging” or “blogger” and you’ll be greeted with a great big list of all the groups for us bloggers of a mature nature.

  2. Facebook

You can always use Facebook to promote your blog. From streaming your blog to your own personal wall/timeline or even go ahead and create a page just for your blog. As with the content on your blog, you’re going to want to keep your Facebook as updated as possible, or people will quickly lose interest in what you have to say.

Facebook also has some pretty interesting Terms of Service when it comes to adult content, but as long as you stick to PG-13 type information, you shouldn’t hurt too bad. There has been a string of adult bloggers who get their content flagged and their page will shut down for 24 hours or longer. It’s just a matter of being smarter than the average bear when promoting adult content on Facebook.

  3. Twitter

It’s incredibly easy to promote your blog on Twitter these days with most blogging platforms and it’s sure to bring in more new readers than any other network. Be sure to use Twitter wisely and remember: it’s all about making connections. Don’t forget to follow those who follow you back, retweet really great things that you read off your feed and maybe create a list or two of all the people you think your followers need to check out.

  4. Lifestyle Bloggers Anonymous

I know this is cheating (but only by a little bit), but in all honesty, Lifestyle Bloggers Anonymous is a great place to post updates from your blog. We offer forums for you to promote your blog and get feedback on it, we have the blog directory for you to place your blog in and you can even do a round up link post to all your greatest entries as a blog post on Lifestyle Bloggers Anonymous – potentially drawing all of our readers to your blog! Don’t even get me started on how good your profile can be for promoting your blog…

Now I’d like to know, what social networks do you use to promote your blog? How much time and effort have you put into promoting your blog? If you don’t promote your blog, is there a reason for it (i.e., not interested in more readers, unsure of how to promote my blog, etc.)?

  2. I’ve not had very much awesomeness from Facebook – need to be safe with that one!

    • I would definitely say that you’re right Elli, and really, all the examples that we’ve included you do kind of have to watch what you’re posting. They’ll all let you get away with quite a lot until they realize that you’re getting away with it.

With that being said, I do think it’s possible for sex bloggers to use these social networks to promote their work and connect with like-minded individuals, you just have to read up on the TOS and follow them to the letter. If that means no nude pictures, then you need to re-work your social media strategy to include more content and less imagery. Yes, these sites don’t necessarily make it easy for us sexual advocates to be all that we want to be when using them, but we can make it work and we can make it work for our blogs.

Can I ask what you’ve run into on Facebook, because we’ve personally never had any issues here at Lifestyle Bloggers Anonymous, but have seen problems with other sex bloggers we follow.
